UUP Condemn 'Hate Song' Incident At Co Down Bar

The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) has condemned an incident at Quinn's Bar in Newcastle which saw patrons at the bar "singing words of hate" about the Queens, describing those involved as "lacking in basic human decency".

Councillor Jill Macauley said: "The scenes from Quinn’s Bar in Newcastle are disgusting and reprehensible. It is highly disrespectful. Those involved should be ashamed of themselves for being full of such bitterness and lacking in basic human decency. Sadly, their words and actions have been reflected in a number of other venues in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

"Myself and UUP colleagues have been in contact with local police regarding this sickening incident. We have asked them to investigate several events over the weekend. Videos circulating on social media clearly identify people and their morally reprehensible actions should be considered under hate legislation. I hope to see those responsible made an example of and suitable action taken against them.

"However, the vast majority of people have shown respect whilst the United Kingdom and people throughout the world mourn the loss of a much-loved Monarch, HM Queen Elizabeth II.

"The Queen will be a role model for generations to come and we as a Nation will spend the days leading up to the State funeral remembering a lifetime of service which she gave to all our people."

Broadcaster And Presenter Kim Lenaghan Dies Aged 61

Broadcaster and presenter Kim Lenaghan has died, aged 61.

Ms Lenaghan had worked for BBC Northern Ireland for 25 years, presenting TV programme and becoming a regularly fixture on BBC Radio Ulster, where she presented Arts Extra, This New Day, The Foodie and her own weekend morning programme.

She live in Belfast with her husband, Andrew Jones.

Interim director of BBC Northern Ireland, Adam Smyth, said staff were "shocked and saddened" by the "death of our friend".

Info And Guidance For Businesses For Period Of National Mourning

Businesses are not obligated to close during the official period National Mourning to mark the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Information and guidance has been issued for businesses for the period of National Mourning, up to and including the day of the State Funeral on Monday 19 September.

There is no obligation on organisations to suspend business during the period of National Mourning. Some businesses may wish at their own discretion to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the State Funeral.

Members of the public seeking further information concerning the closure of businesses on the day of the State Funeral should contact the business directly.

Monday 19 September, the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral, will be a national bank holiday across the United Kingdom. This will allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign while marking the final day of the period of National Mourning.

This bank holiday will operate the same way as other bank holidays, and there is no statutory entitlement to time off. Employers may include bank holidays as part of a worker's leave entitlement.
