Police-Perpetrated Violence Against Women And Girls Report Published
The Alliance Party has welcomed the publication of the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) and College of Policing review of themes, learnings and recommendations on police-perpetrated violence against women and girls (VAWG).
The review has been published as part of a national police framework to improve the response to violence against women and girls. Police forces were asked to conduct an urgent review of sexual misconduct, domestic abuse and other VAWG-related offences against officers and staff and to share their learning with the NPCC and College of Policing. The review includes recommendations for improving the handling of police-perpetrated violence against women and girls.
Alliance MLA and member of the Policing Board, John Blair, said: "I welcome this progress, as well as other more recent commitments from the PSNI to tackle VAWG, but I want to hear more from the police about what wide-ranging reforms they are going to introduce to pursue offenders who commit so called 'lower level' sexual offending, when we know they are often a precursor to more serious crimes against women.
"Perpetrators don't go out and kill without any prior indication they are a danger to women and girls, which was the case with Sarah Everard's murderer and similarly the killer of Libby Squires, who was known to have indecently exposed himself in a pattern of abuse which escalated to murder.
"As far as they can, the police must ensure a serving police officer never rapes and murders a woman again."

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Four People Arrested Over George Gilmore Murder
Four more people have been arrested over the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, a high-profile loyalist, was shot in the neck in the Woodburn estate in Carrickfergus on 13 March this year. He died from his injuries the next day in hospital. A 30-year-old man and three women have been taken to Musgrave Police Station to be questioned.

Two Women Working In Café In Belfast Win Equal Pay Claim
Two women working at a café in Belfast have won an equal pay claim. Paulina Paczkowska and Agnieszka Anna Golygowska both worked as floor staff- cum-baristas in the Avoca Café. While they had been doing the same work as a male colleague since May 2013, the male colleague had always received a significantly higher rate of pay.
