32-Year-Old Jailed For Murder Of John Paul McDonagh
Detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team have welcomed the sentence handed down to 32-year-old Joseph Joyce for the murder of John Paul McDonagh in Enniskillen two years ago.
Mr McDonagh, who was 18 years old, died from an injury to his leg, after a verbal exchange escalated to a physical altercation. This happened in Coolcullen Meadows in Enniskillen on the night of Saturday 11 April 2020.
At Belfast Crown Court on Thursday 27 October, Joseph Joyce was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment for murder, 5 years imprisonment for grievous bodily harm with intent on another man, 2 years and 6 months imprisonment for two counts of possessing an offensive weapon and 2 years imprisonment for affray, all to be served concurrently. His wife, Ellen Joyce, received a two year custodial sentence suspended for one year for possession of an offensive weapon.
Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell said: "John Paul was just 18 years old when he was murdered. He should have had his whole life ahead of him.
"I know that nothing can ease the pain and heartache the McDonagh family continue to feel.
"I can only hope that today's result sends out a clear message of the consequences of such irreversible and reckless actions. A young life has been taken; a family left bereft; and another set to spend 10 years in prison."

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court

Murder Investigation Launched Over 1974 Benburb Killing
Police have launched a murder investigation into the death of a man who was killed by soldiers in County Tyrone over 40 years ago. John Pat Cunnningham, 27, was shot by members of an Army patrol in Benburb on 15th June 1974. The case has been re-opened and a murder investigation has begun.

Over £1m Secured For Early Years Fund
Over £1 million in funding has been secured for the Early Years Fund. The Fund, which supports 153 early years organisations across Northern Ireland, will use the funding to ensure current services continue until March 2016. Education Minister John O'Dowd confirmed £1.1m in funding.
