Balmoral Show continues amazing success

Around 60,000 people are expected to have visited this year's annual Balmoral Show in south Belfast when it ends on Friday evening.

This year's agricultural event, now into its second day, promises to be the biggest ever with numerous attractions and stands for visitors, both young and old.

Agriculture Minister, Ian Pearson described the Show as a great "opportunity to showcase all that is best in Northern Ireland’s agriculture industry".

"At a time of great change, great challenge and great opportunity for farmers here, the tradition of the Balmoral Show continues to be a highlight in the agriculture year," the Minister said.

"It is an excellent event, allowing farmers an ideal forum to show their achievements. The energy and the vitality of the industry are apparent in the many exhibits and events taking place at the show, and the atmosphere is one of positive determination to survive and thrive well into the future."

During his visit to Balmoral, the Minister viewed livestock, poultry and farm machinery exhibits, and spent time meeting with farmers and farmer representatives.

Among this year's rural exhibitions and country themed events are: a mobile climbing & abseiling wall; the kangaroo kid; streetwise circus acts; band stands; dog agility; inter hunt chase; NI school of falconry; working gundog display; the rare breeds survival trust; a childrens farm; and pony club games.

Among the celebrities and personalities spotted sharing in the fun at this year's show were TV chef Paul Rankin and gardening expert Charlie Dimmock.
