Man Arrested In Connection With South Belfast Hijacking

A 22-year-old man has been arrested following reports of an attempted vehicle hijacking and several cars on fire in south Belfast

overnight on Friday 09 December into Saturday 10th December.

Detective Sergeant Dougherty said: "We received a report at around 11.40pm last night that a car was on fire in the Fitzwilliam Street area of south Belfast. Officers attended alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the fire. The car was completely destroyed.

"We then received a report a couple of minutes later that a man approached a car in the Lisburn Road area, opened the door and ordered the female driver to get out, before kicking and punching her and making off on foot.

"A further report was received shortly before 11.50pm that a man was trying car door handles in the Upper Crescent area.

"Shortly after 12.05am this morning, Saturday 10th December, officers attended a report of two further vehicles on fire in the Cameroon Street area. Extensive damage was caused to two vehicles. Two other vehicles also had their handles tried in the area.

"The man was then located in the Botanic Avenue area a short time later and arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including two counts of arson and four counts of interference with vehicles. He remains in police custody at this time."

Detective Sergeant Dougherty continued: "Our enquiries are ongoing into this investigation and police are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time, or have any information which could assist, to contact them on 101, and quote reference number 2114 09/12/22."

Police And Family Appeal Over Missing Man
Police and the family of a missing man have said they are becoming increasingly worried for his safety. Gary McGrath-Hayes from County Antrim was last seen at home in the Ballybogey area near Ballymoney on Thursday morning at around 07:30. 42-year-old Mr McGrath-Hayes left home in his car, a black Honda Accord, vehicle registration number HEZ 7411.

Cannabis worth an estimated £42,000 has been seized and a 59-year-old man arrested in an operation in L'Derry. The 3kg of herbal cannabis was intercepted in the postal system on Tuesday, 02 April.

Police Officer Resigns After Reducing Vulnerable Man To Tears
A police officer has resigned after he reduced a vulnerable man to tears with "insulting, spiteful and deliberately provocative language". The incident happened near Armagh city in March last year. The Police Ombudsman, Mrs Marie Anderson, commended three probationary police officers for raising concerns.

PSNI Appeal For Help Tracing Missing Belfast Man
The PSNI have issued an appeal for help in tracing the whereabouts of 31-year-old Conor Bradley. Conor was last seen on Saturday, 29 January. He is described as 6'6", of slim build with ginger hair. He is believed to be in the Belfast area, according to police. Anyone with any information about Conor or his whereabouts is urged to contact police.

Man Stabbed During Attack In East Belfast
A man, aged in his 40's, has been stabbed during an attack in east Belfast. The victim was chased by a number of men from the Killagan Bend in the Cregagh area area, heading towards the Greenway just after 11 pm on Monday, 03 May. He was stabbed in the back and the head. The victim remains in a stable condition in hospital.
