Man Arrested On Drug Offences After 'Driving Suspiciously'

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of drug-related offences after the PSNI stopped and searched a vehicle in Newtownabbey.

The PSNI have said that officers were attending an unrelated incident in the Antrim Road area on the evening of Tuesday 02 May, when they noticed a driver acting suspiciously.

Police said that the driver became "aggressive and obstructive" when officers began to search the car.

Speaking about the incident Inspector McCallion said: "After the man was handcuffed and searched, a quantity of suspected cannabis was located down his trousers, as well as a sum of money. A sum of money was also located inside the car.

"Further searches were later carried out a property in the Glandore Parade area of north Belfast and a quantity of suspected Class B drugs along with drug-related paraphernalia were seized from the house.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply, possession of a Class B controlled drug and obstructing powers of search for drugs.

"He remains in police custody at this time, assisting officers with their enquiries."

Stating that "drugs have no place in our society" Inspector McCallion appealed to anyone with concerns about drugs in their area to contact police on 101.

He added: "The quicker we receive information the quicker we can act. Even if you think it's not significant, it could make a big difference."

Five Men Arrested Over George Gilmore Murder
Five people have been arrested in connection with the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on 13 March this year. He was taken to hospital but died the next day. The PSNI also searched two properties in the area. The suspects have been taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

Many Arrests In Gardaí Drugs Raids
