Police Search For Man Following Knife Attacks In Dundonald

Police are searching for a man following two incidents in Dundonald this morning, Wednesday 03 May.

The first incident occurred at around 8.40am this morning, when an elderly homeowner in the Church Road area spotted a man in his back garden. When the homeowner, a man aged in his 70s, opened his back door the suspect forced his way into the home and held a knife to the elderly man's throat. It is understood that the man did not sustain any injuries in the incident and the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Police have said that within minutes a man matching the description of the suspect attempted to steal a woman's handbag as she walked on the street a short distance away. It is understood that the attacker pulled the woman's hair, forcing her to the ground and threatened her with a knife.

The woman is said to have suffered a minor cut to her face during the attack.

The PSNI have appealed to anyone who noticed a man acting suspiciously in the Church Road, Craignish Crescent and surrounding areas in Dundonald between 8.30am and 8.50am or who may have CCTV, dashcam, or other video footage, to contact them.

Detective Sergeant Cargin said that they believe the incidents are linked and that the investigation is ongoing. He also said that there will be an increased police presence in the Dundonald and wider Ballybeen area, with high-visibility patrols in the area in order to provide reassurance to the community.

People can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org/.
