Drugs Worth Estimated £2m Intercepted En Route To NI
The PSNI's Organised Crime Unit has launched a joint operation with West Midlands Police to investigate the attempted importation of a substantial amount of Class A and B drugs from England to Northern Ireland.
Suspected cannabis and cocaine, with an approximate street value of £ 2 million, was discovered when West Midlands Police stopped and searched a suspicious van in the Walsall area on Thursday, 06 July.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs and was later bailed for further enquiries to be carried out.
Detective Inspector Sweeney said: "We believe that this significant quantity of drugs was destined to arrive in Northern Ireland, and would then likely have been distributed and sold in local communities here. The organised crime gangs involved in this activity profit hugely from the sale of these harmful drugs and have no care for the destruction and harm they cause to people's lives. We will continue every effort to disrupt this criminality, working with other UK and international policing teams to do so.
"Our enquiries into this matter are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone with any information about the supply or use of illegal drugs to contact police on 101 or submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. The Alliance Party has warned that "Northern Ireland is facing an unprecedented crisis", after it raised serious concerns over proposed budget allocations. The Party's Finance spokesperson Eóin Tennyson MLA said Alliance recognised the need to do something and had chosen to "step up and govern" rather than let the situation deteriorate further.

BCC Welcomes Conviction Of Belfast Man For Dog Attack
Belfast City Council (BCC) has welcomed the conviction of a man at Belfast Magistrates Court for an offence involving a dog attack on a woman. BCC brought the prosecution against 43-year-old Stuart Grace, of Forthriver Crescent, Belfast, following a report that Mr Grace’s German Shepherd dog had attacked a woman, injuring her arm and back.
