Triad involvement suspected in Chinese woman's murder

A Triad gang are thought to have been behind the murder of a Chinese woman in north Belfast on Thursday.

The young woman, who has yet to be formally identified, was found murdered in the back of a car stopped by police at a checkpoint on the Antrim Road at around 2am.

Two chinese men were subsequently arrested by police and were being questioned on Friday.

Last week, detectives are believed to have warned the Chinese community that a London gang was attempting to kidnap someone for ransom in the Belfast area.

A spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed that a possible Triad link to the murder "remains a line of enquiry."

Police are appealing for information into the identity of the murdered woman. She is described as being in her early 20’s, 5’ 4" in height, slim with shoulder length black hair in a centre parting. She has one identifiable mark, which is a small birthmark just above her knee.

Meanwhile, a house at Skegoniell Avenue off the Antrim Road remained cordoned off by police as forensic officers examine the scene.
