e-Europe showcase to connect with Derry

Exhibitors from across the world will gather in Londonderry this month to showcase the use of broadband technology in the fields of education, health, business, local and central government and in community and voluntary groups.

As the roll-out of broadband infrastructure continues across Northern Ireland, the e-Europe conference - which runs on 15 and 16 June and is fully interactive - will showcase best practice in a variety of broadband IT solutions at the two-day event.

Displays will include:
  • a Spanish eHospital that integrates electronic patient records with diagnostic equipment such as radiological procedures, x-rays, etc. All communications with other hospitals and patients are carried out using IT and SMS
  • an Indian initiative known as the ‘e-Richshaw’ which allows web visitors to navigate Banaras, one of India’s most popular pilgrimage destinations
  • a Swedish internet-based project which assesses the effect of stress on mental and physical well-being. The programme targets both individuals and companies and provides exercises aimed at decreasing stress
  • an Irish project which uses music, animation, film, video and graphics to target young people facing barriers to their integration into the labour market
  • demonstration of the process involved in developing interactive computer games using the games engine developed by a Co Donegal-based company. The showcase will demonstrate the individual stages in games development: story-boarding; 3D modelling; layering; texturing and level editing
Also on show will be a showcase for Northern Ireland’s Integrated Managed Learning Environment which aims to facilitate the mobility of the lifelong learner and supports collaboration between Further Education and Higher Education institutions. Aimed at third level students, the project will provide a regional portal to a range of services which students can use to inform their choices on future courses, progression routes and career paths.

Some of the leading players on the global technology scene will play a key role in the delivery of the conference including Dell, Ericsson, BT and Toshiba.

Further information is available at www.e-europe4all.net

Places at the conference are limited, so representatives from businesses, public bodies and community groups who are interested should book their places quickly.
