PSNI And DVA Launch Joint Operation In Omagh
A total of 11 fixed penalty notices were issued during a joint operation by the PSNI's Road Policing Team and the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) in Omagh.
The aim of this operation was to highlight the importance of vehicle condition and target anti-social driving across the district.
As a result of the operation, 11 fixed penalty notices were issued to drivers for a range of offences including defective tyres, vehicle in dangerous condition, no R plates displayed, defective exhaust and for driving without insurance.
Two drivers will be reported to the Public Prosecution Service for driving vehicles in dangerous conditions. Another driver was identified as driving a vehicle without a license. He was reported to the Public Prosecution Service.
During the operation, the DVA was able to examine vehicles. This resulted in nine prohibition notices being served on drivers and two vehicles issued with defect notices.
Chief Inspector Graham Dodds, Head of Road Policing said: "It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is roadworthy.
"This includes fully working lights and electrics, tyres in good condition with sufficient tread, and the overall condition of the motor vehicle. This was an excellent joint operation with our partners in the DVA, who opened Omagh Test Centre on Friday night for a series of safety checks, while our officers were patrolling across the district to detect drivers causing anti-social behaviour or unsafe vehicles.
"We will continue to conduct vehicle checkpoints and enforce road safety issues throughout the winter period."

Two Arrested Following Police Chase In West Belfast
A man and a woman have been arrested following a vehicle pursuit in west Belfast in the early hours of Thursday, 11 January. At approximately 3.20am police on routine patrol noticed a car being driven erratically on the Springfield Road and signalled for it to stop.

Vehicle test centres back on line as staff return to work
The DoE Driver and Vehicle Testing Agency (DVTA) have welcomed a return to work by staff. The strike by members of the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA) has been affecting MOTs and driving tests since mid May this year, but the union announced yesterday that staff are to return to work.
