Seminars to highlight education partnership approach
Professionals working in secondary schools and Further Education Colleges are being encouraged to open up the debate about the introduction of 'Entitlement Frameworks', providing broader curriculum choice for post-primary pupils in Northern Ireland.
In a joint initiative between the Department for Employment and Learning and the Department of Education, a series of five seminars will be held throughout this month, emphasising the need for a partnership approach to implementing the changes and to raise the profile of vocational education in schools.
The initiative follows the Government’s acceptance of the recommendations in the Costello Report and the Review of the Further Education sector, published earlier this year.
In conjunction with the Association of Northern Ireland Colleges (ANIC), the information seminars will bring together the Principals and Chairs of post-primary schools, the Chief Executives of Education and Library Boards and the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools.
The first was held recently at the North West Institute and was hosted jointly by Will Haire, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Employment and Learning and David Woods, Head of Curriculum and Support Team at the Department of Education.
Seminars will also be held today at the Belfast Institute, on June 10 in Newry/Kilkeel Institute, June 23 in the North East Institute, and June 24 in the North Down and Ards Institute.
