Yellow Weather Warning Issued For Saturday 06 April

The Met Office has issued Status Yellow weather warning for "potentially damaging and disruptive winds" as Storm Kathleen arrives on Saturday, 06 April.

Named by Met Éireann, Storm Kathleen is expected to bring widespread gusts of more than 50mph across Northern Ireland on Saturday, with gusts potentially reaching higher speeds of up to 70mph in exposed and coastal areas.

The weather warning comes into force from 8am on Saturday and remains in place until 10pm.

The Met Office has warned of possible travel disruption, power cuts, and a risk of injuries from large waves around the coast.

CAFRE Announces April Open Days For Prospective Students

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) has announced the dates of its upcoming on campus Open Days this April.

The Open Days are being hosted across CAFRE from Tuesday 9 – Saturday 13 April 2024. Students and their parents are invited to book to attend the Equine Open Day at CAFRE, Enniskillen Campus on Saturday 13 April 2024.

Book to attend and meet students and staff, who will guide you around our fabulous equine facilities, and introduce you to a few new arrivals. During the tours you will get the chance to ask questions and gain an insight into life at CAFRE.

Enniskillen Campus is located three miles outside Enniskillen town in the lakeland county of Fermanagh. Enniskillen is about 100 miles from Dublin, 30 miles from Cavan, 30 miles from Monaghan, 40 miles from Sligo and 80 miles from Belfast.

CAFRE offers BSc Honours Degrees and Foundation Degrees in partnership with Ulster University. To apply to study on a degree course applications are made through the UCAS system. It is not too late to apply through UCAS for our Equine programmes for entry in September 2024 as we process applications received through UCAS after the initial January deadline.

The College offers Certificate (Level 2) and Extended Diploma (Level 3) courses alongside Apprenticeships and Farriery courses. Courses are structured to offer students the opportunity to progress on to higher level study, upon successful completion.

Proposed A29 Cookstown Bypass Scheme Consultation

The Department for Infrastructure has launched a public consultation for the proposed A29 Cookstown Bypass scheme.

Last month Minister for Infrastructure John O'Dowd outlined his commitment to progressing this significant scheme when he signed off on the publication of the draft Statutory Orders and the Environmental Impact Assessment Report. He also announced that a public information event would be organised to keep the local community informed about progress with the scheme.

From 10.00 am to 10.00 pm on Tuesday 16 April anyone with an interest in the scheme can come along to The Burnavon in Cookstown where they will have the opportunity to meet with Departmental staff and the engineering consultants. They can provide detail on work to date and the next steps in progressing the scheme.

The consultation period closes on Wednesday 29 May 2024.

The information and presentations on display at the Public Information Event will also be available to view online through a virtual room on the Department's website from 16 April.

Economy Minister Launches Latest All Ireland Scholarships Scheme

The value of each scholarship is £5,500 per annum for the duration of their undergraduate programme. The All Ireland Scholarships were established in 2008 by JP McManus.

Electronic Travel Authorisation Scheme Threatens Tourism Growth
Economy Minister Conor Murphy has raised concerns over the introduction of the British Government Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) Scheme. Meeting with the NI Tourism Alliance (NITA), the Minister said that the scheme could threaten Northern Ireland's tourism growth.

Appeal For Information Following Collision In Ballymoney
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a single vehicle road traffic collision in Ballymoney yesterday, Tuesday 6th February. At around 3.40pm, it was reported to police that a grey Citroen C3 had collided with a pole on the Drones Road.

Appeal For Information On Serious Assault In Portadown
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a serious assault in Portadown that it being investigated as a 'disability hate crime'. On Saturday, 24 February, at around 5.20pm, police received a report that a young man had been attacked by six teenage boys in the High Street Mall area.
