Police Investigating Man's Death Following Ballynahinch Collision

The PSNI have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of an elderly man following a collision in Ballynahinch.

It it understood that police were called at approximately 4.10pm on Monday 08 April, to reports of the "sudden death"of an elderly man at a quarry in the Newcastle Road area of Seaforde. Police and other emergency services attended the scene and confirmed the death of the man, believed to be aged in his 70s. Police have said that initial investigation indicates that the man had been struck by a white HGV Renault lorry earlier in the Square Area of Ballynahinch, but the man was not discovered until the lorry arrived at its destination in Seaforde.

Inspector Cherith Adair from the Police Service’s Collision Investigation Unit said: "A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the road traffic collision is currently ongoing.

"We would appeal to anyone with any information or who may have dash-cam or mobile phone footage available to get in touch.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have footage of both The Square area in Ballynahinch and the Newcastle Road, Seaforde between 3.30pm and 4pm, to contact us at the Collision Investigation Unit at Sprucefield on 101, quoting reference number 1239 08/04/24."
