Belfast School Extension And Community Centre To Go-Ahead

Belfast City Council's Planning Committee has approved an extension to a primary school in south Belfast and the development of a heritage and community centre in west Belfast.

The proposed single-storey extension and an additional eight-classroom school building are intended for St Bride's Primary School, situated on Derryvolgie Avenue. The new buildings are set to replace three existing temporary classrooms on the site, offering a total of eight classrooms along with supplementary support rooms for the school. Additionally, the planning application includes approval for an off-road drop-off/collection lay-by at the school's Windsor Avenue campus, along with a new access point onto Windsor Avenue.

The Committee also gave the green light to a proposal for a heritage and community centre on land situated north of the former Corpus Christi College and east of the Michael Davitts Club in west Belfast. The project includes a multi-use hall, exhibition space, a new car park and signage for exhibits along an existing walking trail adjacent to the GAC Club's boundary.

Councillor Matt Garrett, Chair of the Planning Committee, said: "It's always good to see planning applications come before Planning Committee that will be a real benefit for our residents and communities. The school extension at St Bride’s will certainly benefit our very youngest residents - the school pupils, teaching staff and wider school community."
