Belfast Woman Convicted Over Two Dog Attacks
Belfast City Council has welcomed the sentencing of a woman at Belfast Magistrates Court for two offences involving a dog attacking a person.
The council brought the prosecution against 47-year-old Lindsay Gorman, of Downhill Avenue, after reports that he Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog had attacked and injured a three year old boy, injuring his arm, at Drumart Square, Belfast on 30 August 2022.
And that the same dog had attacked a man, injuring his left calf, also at Drumart Square, on 10 December 2022.
Ms Gorman was convicted of two counts under Article 29(2) of The Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983 following the attacks. On both occasions the dog had been left secured but unattended outside commercial premises.
Ms Gorman was sentenced to 4 months custody, suspended for 12 months for each offence and ordered to pay compensation orders totalling £300 with a further £176 legal and court costs.

Hero Army Dog Handlers Honoured
Murdered soldiers who worked with specialist 'sniffer' dogs during the Northern Ireland Troubles have been remembered. The 'Red Paw' and its work across Northern Ireland was the subject of a special memorial service held in England at the weekend. It was in honour of the six dog handlers and two sniffer dogs killed in Northern Ireland.

Belfast Council Moves Dog Fouling Campaign North
Belfast City Council is moving its dog fouling campaign to the north of the city, in a bid to crack down on dog litter. The 'Your dog, your job' campaign was launched in west Belfast last month. The Council says it resulted in a reduction of dog litter in the area by just over a quarter (26%).

Belfast City Council has today launched a major campaign to urge dog lovers to ‘scoop their poop’. The high visibility campaign is aimed at owners who allow their pets to foul the city’s streets and parks, but then don’t clean up the mess left behind.

DAERA Announces Next Steps For XL Bully Owners
The owners of XL Bully type dogs have been reminded that the exemption scheme will open on 09 August, 2024. From that date, all XL Bully owners who wish to keep their dog will have to apply and pay for an Exemption Certificate by 31 December 2024.

L'Derry Dogs Offered Free Microchipping
Dog owners in the city of L'Derry are being encouraged to take advantage of a free dog micro-chipping service being offered by the Dogs Trust. The Trust will be offering the service across a range of locations this week. The Mayor, Cllr Kevin Campbell said it was a great opportunity for dog owners to avail of the free service.
