Government announces investment for disability project
The government today announced ongoing investment in the Wraparound Scheme in the Southern Health and Social Services Board.
The project develops new ways of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working in partnership with the families and carers of children with a disability.
Speaking at the announcement, Health Minister Angela Smith said: “This scheme is an excellent example of Wraparound in action and this year the Department will invest a further £480,000 in the project.
“The vision of Wraparound seeks to improve the quality of life for children with disabilities, their families and carers. More importantly it makes a real difference to the lives of disabled children and their families across the Southern Board area."
The Wraparound scheme, which is unique to the Southern Health and Social Services Board (SHSSB), was introduced in October 2001.
SHSSB was awarded Executive Programme Funds totalling £1.5 million in the financial years 2001/02 to 2003/04.
The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety allocated £480,000 in 2004/05 to allow the scheme to continue.

Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey has highlighted the benefits advice service offered by her department, urging people to 'Make the Call' as the cost of living crisis continues to escalate. The Make the Call Wraparound service supports people in accessing benefits and supports to which they are entitled but have not been claiming.
