NI Remains UK's Top Region For A-Level Grades
Around one-third of A-level students in Northern Ireland received the top grades of A* to A, maintaining Northern Ireland's status as the highest-performing region in the UK for these grades.
Education Minister, Paul Givan, has congratulated the students who received their BTEC, AS and A-level results, as 98.5 per cent of students were awarded grades ranging from A* to E.
In a statement, Minister Givan said: "Congratulations to all the young people who received their results today. They have all worked incredibly hard and this has been reflected in the grades they have deservedly achieved. Our pupils have again performed impressively, and I wish them well as they move on to their next stage of education, employment or training.
"For some students the results will not be what they had hoped for and I would urge them not to be disheartened. This is just one step in their journey and there are many pathways open to students who may be unsure of their next steps. I would encourage them to seek advice on the range of options and take time to consider the many choices available.
"Summer 2024 also marks an important milestone for examinations as it completes Northern Ireland’s return to pre-pandemic arrangements and standards. With this in mind, I want to pay tribute to all the teachers across Northern Ireland who have worked tirelessly over recent years and continue to be at the centre of delivering successful education outcomes for our young people. Today is testament to their commitment, dedication and passion."

Northern Ireland students have outperformed their peers in England and Wales in both A-level and the new AS level exams. Figures released by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) on Thursday August 16 show a record 48,000 grades have been issued to Northern Ireland students across all exam boards.

Poll are open across Northern Ireland as part of the UK-wide General Election. A total of 136 candidates are competing across 18 constituencies. 127 of the candidates represent 11 total political parties, with the other 9 standing as independents. Eligible voters can cast their vote until 10pm tonight.

NI's A-level students have outperformed their counterparts in England and Wales - but that's no guarantee of a university place as applications have far outnumbered undergraduate vacancies. For the first time, A*s were awarded to outstanding students, and 9.3% of Northern Ireland students achieved at least one of these grades, compared to 8.
