SF Raises NI Funding Issues With Westminster Minister
Sinn Féin MP John Finucane has met Alex Norris, the Westminster Minister responsible for local growth, to highlight the funding issues faced by local community groups and organisations.
Following the meeting, Mr Finucane said: "Today's meeting was an important opportunity to raise issues faced by local community groups and organisations who have applied to the 'Shared Prosperity Fund', directly with the British government.
"This fund was established to replace lost EU funding as a result of Brexit and is an important pillar for local organisations. "The minister recognised these issues and agreed with us on the vital work these groups do in supporting young people, uplifting workers and families and improving local communities.
"We also urged him to engage with applicants to the 'Community Ownership Fund' to provide clarity to organisations who were successful and also those still awaiting a decision. I welcome his agreement to do this.
"I look forward to continuing to work with the minister and also welcoming him to our constituencies of north and west Belfast in the time ahead to showcase the positive work happening everyday in our communities.
"He is also keen to work with the local Executive and Assembly to ensure we are doing everything we can to support local communities and to build a more prosperous, vibrant future."
