Best Localities To Purchase Your Forever Home In Malta

Malta is a great place to live for many reasons. It's in the centre of Europe for starters, offering easy access to most major European cities via a direct flight. Additionally, due to its Mediterranean setting, it's home to a great climate of warm summers and mild winters. All this and more (think activities, nightlife, culture and cuisine), make living in Malta an exciting and diverse prospect.

Different areas around the island are home to different ambiances and activities. So, if you are thinking to buy property in Malta, let's take a look at where could be best.

Family living

If you're moving to Malta with your family, then being near essential schools and amenities for children is an absolute must. With this in mind, Naxxar makes a very good starting point. It's a great option for a quieter, suburban lifestyle, while still having a lot of amenities and a friendly community to boot. One of the primary reasons for staying in this area is the excellent school options for both primary and secondary. Outdoor activities are also strong, with numerous open spaces and parks to enjoy. For parents, it boasts easy access to supermarkets and local shops without too much travel. However, like most places on Malta, having a car is recommended as the public transport system is not the best. Other great family-oriented central locations include Attard and Lija.

Mellieha is another great option for families. Located in the northern part of the island rather than the central location of Naxxar, it's located near some of the best beaches and stunning locations. With this in mind, it's ideal for those who want a water-based living, and is close to Ghadira Bay, home to shallow waters, picnic and play areas. Like Naxxar, there are also great schools in the area, as well as sports clubs, hiking trails and more. It's a close-knit community here too, with local festivals and family socialising options.

Coming for work

For young professionals, or others choosing to live on Malta for work-related purposes, other localities are better suited. If you're looking for that modern feel, then Sliema or St Julian's are both excellent options, and relatively close to each other. However, both these areas are highly sought-after, though this comes as no surprise. They're both in the heart of the modern lifestyle on the island too. And, a such, is packed with an eclectic mix of dining, entertainment and shopping options. The vibrant lifestyle these areas bring, make them both incredibly attractive to professionals and international visitors.

Valletta too, is an obvious choice if you're planning to stay here long-term. The capital city offers a stunning look at old architecture, and is a World Heritage site to boot. While it is very touristy, there is also a quaint residential areas, meaning it offers quiet charm and exciting modern amenities all in one convenient package. Not only that, but Valletta is near to some of the main transport links to other places in and around Malta. For instance, it's close to the Grand Harbour ferry service which provides connections to Birgu and Sliema from Valletta.

Relaxing in peace

For many, the lure of Malta is found in its tranquillity and sunny climate. With this in mind, there are many renovated farmhouses in Malta, located in the centre of the island. These take you away from the busier towns while still providing a very modern lifestyle and access (with a car) to local amenities and smaller villages.

Alternatively, heading to the northern parts of the island makes a great place for expats to lay down their roots. Bugibba and St Paul's Bay both offer great living places with access to Malta's top beaches. The lifestyle here is typically laid-back and is great for those who want a seaside lifestyle with plenty of activities to keep them access. From the north, it's also far easier to access communities around the globe. In short, this location is great for easily settling in and feeling at home with minimal fuss and effort.

At the end of the day, Malta is not very large. Wherever you choose to purchase your forever home, you're going to find something that suits your budget and living requirements.
