Elderly Woman Hospitalised In Antrim Arson Attack

Detectives are appealing for information following an arson attack at a residential property in the Rathglynn area of Antrim on Tuesday, 21st January.

The incident occurred around 3:20 AM, during which a woman in her 70s was inside the property. She was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment of burns to her hands and smoke inhalation.

A woman aged in her 40s, who attempted to rescue the resident, was also treated for smoke inhalation and injuries to her hands. Another man, also aged in his 40s, who assisted in the rescue effort, was also treated for smoke inhalation.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service responded to the incident and extinguished the fire, which caused significant damage to the property.

Detective Sergeant Crothers stated that the incident is being treated as arson with intent.

DS Crothers said: "Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone with any information, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 120 21/01/25. Rise In Uptake Of Drug & Alcohol Treatment Services
The number of people receiving treatment for drug and alcohol abuse in Northern Ireland has grown, a recent census has shown. Some 6,743 people were in active treatment in April 2019, for either drug or alcohol abuse or both. This represents a rise in clients from 5,969 in the 2017 census.

Commissioning work begins at water treatment facility

Water and sewerage infrastructure receives £100m
Regional Development Minister, Peter Robinson has outlined plans to invest almost £100 million on upgrading the province's water and sewerage infrastructure. The Minister was speaking on Friday, June 28, at the opening of the new Derg Water Treatment Works near Castlederg, which was constructed at a cost of £10.3 million.

Attempted Arson Attack In Newry
Police have launched an investigation in connection with an attempted arson attack at a flat in Newry. The incident occurred at a property on Cleary Crescent at around 9.15pm on Monday. A flammable liquid was poured through the door from a plastic bottle which was placed at the door and set on fire. Damage was caused to the door.

Woman Found Unconscious On Co Down Road
A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.
