Wrightbus Creates 60 New Apprenticeships In Company Expansion
Wrightbus, the pioneering zero-emission transport manufacturer, plans to recruit 60 new apprentices as the company continues to expand its operations in the UK and Europe.
The company, which employs over 2,200 people at its Ballymena factory, is currently offering apprenticeships in various disciplines, including manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, fabrication welding, coachbuilding, driveline operations, spray painting, and electrical engineering.
To mark Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week (3-7 February) and UK National Apprenticeship Week (10-16 February), Wrightbus is hosting two events to showcase career opportunities.
"Apprentices are an incredible asset for our company; they bring with them fresh enthusiasm and invaluable ways of thinking, helping us all grow and develop new ideas, processes, solutions and products," said Jean-Marc Gales, Wrightbus Chief Executive. "Over the last few years, we have continued to grow and expand in the UK, developed new markets in Europe and have launched new brands to accelerate the drive to decarbonisation." Current apprentices highlighted the positive impact of the programme. "I started in Wrightbus in January 2023 as a logistics operator," said Ciaran O'Kane, a first-year electrical engineering apprentice. "By May 2023 I had started a VIE apprenticeship and over the last nine months I have learned so much and developed so many skills."
Éirinn Lavelle, who has recently completed her fourth year of an electrical engineering apprenticeship, said: "I have really enjoyed these years so far as I have constantly been learning new skills and information about my job."
"My first year of apprenticeship has been a rewarding journey so far, and I am excited to see it opening many doors to a promising career," said Pearse McGill, a first-year mechanical engineering (coachbuilding) apprentice.
Wrightbus has emphasised its commitment to developing green skills and green technology, and encouraging apprentices at every stage of their career.
The company is hosting an Apprenticeship Insight Day on Wednesday, 5th February, from 9.30am to 2.30pm, where prospective apprentices can meet engineers, tour the factory, and learn more about the apprenticeship opportunities available.
An open night for interested individuals and their parents or guardians will be held on 12th February.
