£300,000 Cannabis Factory Discovered In Hillsborough
Two men have been charged following the discovery of a cannabis factory in Hillsborough on Friday, 7th March. The discovery was made by detectives from the PSNI's Organised Crime Unit, assisted by local police.
Officers, during a proactive operation, searched a property in the Sandringham Court area at approximately 10:30 pm. They found approximately 150 cannabis plants, a large quantity of harvested cannabis, and other items. The potential street value of the recovered drugs is estimated to be £300,000.
The two men, aged 22 and 32, have been charged with several offences, including possession of a Class B controlled drug, possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply, and cultivating cannabis. They are due to appear at Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Monday, 10th March. As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Detective Inspector Kelly said: "Our enquiries are continuing but this operation demonstrates that we continue to be committed to removing drugs from the local community and dealing with organised crime gangs involved in the production and supply of controlled drugs."
The Detective Inspector also highlighted the damage caused to the property and urged landlords and letting agents to ensure proper identification when renting properties, to conduct regular checks, and to report any concerns to the police.
"I would ask if anyone has any information about suspected drug dealing in their area to call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, information can also be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111," Detective Inspector Kelly added.
