Little-Pengelly Champions NI Business In Washington

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly has concluded a series of engagements in Washington DC, aimed at promoting Northern Ireland as a prime destination for business and investment.

The week-long visit provided opportunities to strengthen ties with key US figures, including a meeting with former US President Donald Trump.

Little-Pengelly emphasised the importance of the long-standing relationship between Northern Ireland and the United States, stating that her visit aimed to build upon this foundation. "This is Northern Ireland's time to shine," she said. "We reap the benefits of a strong economic connection with the U.S. and the purpose of my visit this week has been to shine a spotlight on Northern Ireland as an exciting place for business and investment."

During her engagements, Little-Pengelly highlighted Northern Ireland's strengths in key sectors such as technology, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and renewable energy. She stressed the importance of fostering further US investment to drive economic growth. "We have been very clear that growing a globally competitive and sustainable economy is one of our priorities and our relationship with the U.S. is vital when it comes to delivering this," she explained.

The Deputy First Minister reported a positive reception from US officials, including Senators and policy makers, noting "unparalleled access" during her visit. "From the U.S. President to Senators and key policy makers, we have had unparalleled access and the reaction has been really positive."

Little-Pengelly attended a range of events throughout the week, including the White House Reception, the Speakers Luncheon, the NI Bureau Breakfast, the Ireland Fund Gala dinner, and a U.S. Chamber of Commerce Roundtable, alongside numerous meetings.

"We have a unique and compelling story to tell," she said. "This week was an opportunity to deepen those economic and cultural ties, foster new investment opportunities and showcase Northern Ireland as a great place to work, live and invest so that we can ensure a more prosperous future for all."
