Minister announces £400k roundabout scheme

Work is to begin on a new £400,000 roundabout scheme in Co Fermanagh, Minister of State, John Spellar said today.

The scheme will see a new roundabout at the junction of the A32 Enniskillen to Irvinestown Road with the B82 Killadeas Road.

It will replace the existing priority junction, which in recent years has been the scene of a number of road accidents. The new layout should also help to alleviate traffic queues on the minor road.

Poor ground conditions have dictated that the scheme will need to be completed in two stages. The first stage will be the advance fill contract and the second stage will be the completion works, which will be carried out in the summer of 2006.

The Minister said: "This scheme has been long awaited by the people using these routes and I am pleased to announce that funding has been made available to construct the roundabout over the next two years.

"The roundabout will be a safer junction and a more appropriate arrangement to meet the demands of traffic flows between the Irvinestown and Killadeas roads."

The advance fill contract will be carried out by, McFaddens Ltd, from Mountfield.
