PSNI Traffic And Travel Advice Ahead Of L'Derry Parades
Motorists in the Derry City & Strabane area are advised to anticipate traffic delays and diversions from this evening, Friday, May 23rd, through Sunday, May 25th, due to a series of scheduled parades and events. Police will be deployed to manage traffic flow where necessary.
Friday, May 23rd: A parade is scheduled in Newtownstewart from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Diversions will be in place, and those not attending are advised to seek alternative routes. Saturday, May 24th: Castlederg town centre will host a parade from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, starting and ending at the main car park and proceeding via The Diamond. In L'Derry, a parade will take place from the Waterside to Cityside between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM. The route includes Iona Terrace, Glendermott Road, Spencer Road, Craigavon Bridge, Carlisle Road, The Diamond, and Society Street. Also on Saturday, the 2025 Mayor's Supercar Saturday event will cause disruptions. Vehicles will depart from Pennyburn Industrial Estate at 11:30 AM, travelling along Buncrana Road, Strand Road, Queens Quay, Harbour Square roundabout, Custom House Street, and arriving at Guildhall Square around 11:45 AM. The event concludes with vehicles leaving Guildhall Square from approximately 4:15 PM.

The first begins at 2:30 PM from Albert Street Car Park, moving along Lower Strabane Road to The Diamond and Lower Main Street by 3:00 PM, returning to Albert Street car park by 4:30 PM. The second parade starts at 6:45 PM from the main car park, reaching The Diamond by 7:00 PM, and returning to the main car park by 8:30 PM.
Road users are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for extra travel time.
