Security Alert Ongoing In L'Derry's Waterside
Police in L'Derry are currently responding to a security alert on Limavady Road in the Waterside area, following the discovery of a suspicious package reported just after 10:15am this morning, May 28th. A public safety operation is in effect, with cordons established around the Heron Way and Nelson Drive areas.
While no roads have been closed and no evacuations of homes have been ordered at this time, Ebrington Primary School and Nursery has made the precautionary decision to close for the remainder of the day.
Chief Inspector Cherith Craig acknowledged the disruption and inconvenience caused but reassured the public that police are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. She expressed appreciation for the cooperation and patience from the school community and the wider public. Police stated they would provide further updates.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

A 54-year-old member of police staff who was arrested in County Antrim as part of ongoing investigations into the awarding of vehicle contracts has been released. The man was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and has been taken to a police station in Belfast for questioning.
