Security Alert Ongoing In Strabane

Police are currently managing a security alert in the Evish Square area of Strabane following the discovery of a suspicious device shortly after 9:00am this morning, Tuesday, 10 June.

A public safety operation has been initiated, and the primary area affected is the junction of Mount Carmel Heights with Newtownkennedy Street, which is currently inaccessible. As a precautionary measure, a number of homes in the vicinity are being evacuated. Melvin Sports Complex has been made available as a rest centre for those displaced.

Inspector Robb acknowledged the impact on residents, stating: "We understand the disruption and inconvenience this is causing, and we are working our way through this situation as quickly as possible. However, public safety is of paramount importance and we appreciate the co-operation and patience from the public as we deal with this incident."

The PSNI has confirmed they will provide further updates as the situation develops. Residents and motorists are advised to avoid the affected area until further notice.

A number of residents have been evacuated from their homes in the Moygashel area of Co Tyrone following a security alert. On Twitter, the PSNI said: "Police are currently dealing with a security alert in the Moygashel area. "No roads are currently affected but some residents have been evacuated from their homes as a result of this.
