Ligoniel Security Alert Ends After 'Viable' Device Dealt With
A security alert in the Flush Road area of Ligoniel has now ended, following the discovery and safe disposal of a suspicious object described as "viable".
Police were called to the scene at around 16:00 on Wednesday, 18 June, after receiving a report of the object. Detective Inspector Lenaghan confirmed that officers, alongside Ammunition Technical Officers (ATOs), attended the location. The ATOs carried out controlled explosions on the device, which is believed to have been in the area for a number of years. The Flush Road was closed at both ends during the incident, with cordons put in place. Due to the rural nature of the location, no properties required evacuation. Members of the public and road users were advised to avoid the area while the operation was ongoing.
Police enquiries into the incident are continuing. Authorities are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1079 18/06/25. Alternatively, information can be submitted online via the non-emergency reporting form at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.
