Communities Minister Urges Applications To Cladding Safety Scheme

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons is strongly encouraging building owners and agents in Northern Ireland to apply for funding through the Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS). The scheme provides crucial financial support for addressing unsafe cladding on high-rise residential buildings, aiming to enhance fire safety for residents.

The CSS is designed for residential buildings that are over 11 metres in height or exceed four storeys, and where a responsible developer cannot be identified, traced, or held accountable for the remediation costs.

Minister Lyons emphasised the importance of the scheme: "The safety of people in their homes is of paramount importance. I am urging owners and agents to ensure any potential fire risks are identified and dealt with urgently. The Cladding Safety Scheme will help with the costs associated with the removal or treatment of potentially unsafe cladding."

He highlighted that approximately £3.2 million has already been awarded to building owners in Northern Ireland through the scheme, directly contributing to the protection of residents.

The Minister urged eligible parties to submit their applications before the closing date of Sunday, 1 September 2025.

The Department for Communities' Cladding Safety Scheme in Northern Ireland is administered by Homes England, under an agreement with the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

Further information on the scheme, including details on how to apply, is available on the nidirect website.
