Police Name Victims Of Fermanagh Fatal Shooting

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has identified the three individuals who tragically lost their lives in a shooting incident in Maguiresbridge, County Fermanagh, yesterday, Wednesday, 23 July.

They are 45-year-old Vanessa Whyte, 13-year-old Sara Rutledge, and 14-year-old James Rutledge. All three were members of the same household.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness stated: "Today, our thoughts remain with those loved ones whose worlds have been torn apart."

The murder investigation is ongoing, and detectives are reiterating their appeal for public assistance. DCI McGuinness is particularly keen to hear from anyone who had spoken to Vanessa, Sara, or James over the past few weeks. "If you are someone that Vanessa, Sara or James may have confided in, please come and speak to us. Any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem could prove crucial to our investigation," he urged.

The Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland has stated that her office was "unable to conclude definitively" on allegations that functional firearms were returned to paramilitary weapon caches during covert policing operations, and were subsequently used to murder police officers and a civilian.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of L'Derry Man
Police have arrested a man in relation to the murder of James McConnell In L'Derry in 2009. Mr McConnell, 38, was killed after he was shot at his house in Woodland Avenue by two men. The man, 48, was arrested in Dungiven and is being detained at Antrim police station. The police are also carrying out two searches in Dungiven.

Man Jailed For Manslaughter Of David James Conville
A 31-year-old man has been jailed at Belfast Crown Court for the manslaughter of David James Conville in south Belfast in May, 2022. Edward Kelly was sentenced to serve three-and-a-half years, half of his sentence will be served in custody and half will be served on licence, following his guilty plea last November.
