North Belfast MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has welcomed overdue Department of Health investment in services at the Brackenburn Clinic. She stated this funding will help ensure trans people receive "fit-for-purpose, timely and accessible medical care based on informed consent." Ms Ní Chuilín highlighted the detrimental impact the crisis in services has had on the mental health of both individuals and the LGBTQI+ community, noting higher rates of suicide and poor mental health among trans young people directly linked to service absence. She urged the Health Minister to ensure the clinic meets the trans community's entitlement to rights-based, compassionate healthcare.
