Man Arrested After Police Pursuit In Belfast City Centre
Police have arrested a man after a pursuit involving a suspected stolen vehicle on Monday, 4 August.
Chief Inspector Pete Cunningham said that District Support Team Officers were on patrol in the Falls Road area when they observed a red Citroen C4 that was believed to have been reported stolen the previous day.
The vehicle was being driven erratically and collided with a taxi, which was carrying passengers, near the junction of Royal Avenue and Donegal Street before making off at speed.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested a short distance away from where the vehicle was abandoned in the Donegal Quay area. He was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including dangerous driving, driving when unfit through drink or drugs, theft of a vehicle, aggravated vehicle taking causing damage, using a motor vehicle without insurance, and driving without a licence. He remains in custody at this time.
Chief Inspector Cunningham confirmed that thankfully, there were no reports of any serious injuries, but damage was caused to the vehicles involved, along with two police vehicles. He added that the damage to police vehicles often takes them off the road for repairs, impacting service delivery to the public.
Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1914 of 4/8/25.
