Belfast Parks Shine With 23 Green Flag Awards

Belfast City Council is celebrating after 23 of its parks and open spaces were awarded prestigious Green Flag Awards.

The announcement was made at the annual ceremony at Bangor Castle Walled Garden, where 118 sites across Northern Ireland were honoured this year.

Belfast's winners include iconic destinations such as Botanic Gardens, Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, Cavehill Country Park, and Ormeau Park, as well as community favourites like Falls Park, Drumglass Park, Grove Park, and Springfield Dam. Botanic Gardens was also recognised with a Heritage Award for its excellence in the care of historic features.

Councillor Ruth Brooks, Chair of the People and Communities Committee, said she was incredibly proud of the achievement.

"This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers and community partners who care for these spaces and keep them welcoming for everyone,” she said.

The Green Flag Award scheme celebrates the vital social and environmental value that parks bring to communities, from boosting health and wellbeing to protecting biodiversity. The awards serve as a reminder that Belfast's green spaces are free, open, and accessible to everyone all year round.
