UUP South Antrim MP Robin Swann has written to Justice Minister Naomi Long and Chancellor Rachel Reeves with proposals aimed at reducing the burden of high car insurance costs for drivers in Northern Ireland. He has also submitted recommendations to the UK Government's new Car Insurance Taskforce.

Mr Swann is urging the Justice Minister to adopt an online injury claims management portal for personal injuries up to a value of £5,000. He believes this would reduce legal costs for insurance companies and lead to a decrease in premiums for drivers.

He has also called on the Chancellor to extend the Financial Conduct Authority's regulatory remit to Northern Ireland to regulate Claims Management Companies. According to Mr Swann, the lack of regulation for these companies contributes to higher costs for local drivers.
