Two Charged After Racially Motivated Attack In South Belfast
Two males, aged 12 and 18, have been charged in connection with a racially motivated attack on a property in south Belfast. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, 28 August, with the younger male due to appear at Belfast Youth Court on Monday, 22 September, and the 18-year-old due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on Thursday, 25 September.
Police were called to the Donegall Avenue area at approximately 12.40am following a report of a disturbance. A property was attacked, and residents were injured by a group of young people. Following a quick response, the two males were arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour. All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service. South Belfast District Commander Superintendent Finola Dornan condemned the incident, stating that it was "exceptionally serious involving the targeting of a family in their own home, motivated by racial hatred." She added that the ages of those involved were of "particular concern" and reassured the local community that police would maintain a visible presence to prevent and detect future offending.
Police have stated that a full and thorough investigation is underway to identify all those responsible. Officers have appealed to anyone with information, CCTV, or other footage that could assist with their enquiries to contact them on 101, quoting reference 30 28/08/25. Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
Reports can also be submitted online or to Crimestoppers anonymously.
