UUP Welcomes Impact Of New Document Preservation Bill

Alan Chambers MLA has welcomed the significant impact of his Preservation of Documents Bill, which he introduced as a private member's bill in 2022.

The legislation created a legal duty to preserve all records from Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries, and Workhouses, ensuring they cannot be destroyed or altered.

Mr Chambers said that the recent digitisation of records now ensures both the protection of the originals and enhanced accessibility for survivors.

Finucane Calls For United Response To Sectarian And Racist Incidents

Sinn Féin MP John Finucane has called for a united front from agencies and politicians to address sectarian and racist incidents in North Belfast.

The MP is hosting an urgent multi-agency meeting to tackle the latest incidents in the Lower Oldpark area. Mr Finucane said the meeting would send a strong message that racist and sectarian intimidation would not be tolerated. He added that the "vast majority of people" in North Belfast want to live in peace and that those responsible for the acts "do not represent these communities."

He concluded by saying that nobody should be a victim of such acts in their own home and that Sinn Féin will continue to stand with those affected.

Belfast Boy Charged With Throwing Fireworks

A 15-year-old boy has been charged to court with disorderly behaviour and four counts of throwing fireworks.

The charges relate to a report of antisocial behaviour in the Donegall Place area of Belfast city centre on Sunday, 31 August.

As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Man Charged Over Stabbing Incidents In West Belfast
A man has been charged over a number of stabbing incidents in west Belfast. The incidents happened in the early hours on Monday morning, 12 April. The charges include threats to kill, common assault and criminal damage. The 39-year-old suspect is to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today, 13 April.

19-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder In North Belfast
The PSNI have charged a 19-year-old man with attempted murder in connection with a number of incidents in north Belfast. It is understood the man has been detained following a knife attack at Annesley Street at around 4pm on Sunday 12 December. A number of other incidents followed on Vicinage Park and Cranburn Street.

Two Men Charged Over East Belfast Robberies
Two men have been charged in connection with two robberies in east Belfast. The incidents happened at two commercial premises on the Albertbridge Road at 11:35am and 11:50am on Tuesday, 12 April. The suspects, aged 29 and 33, are due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court later today, 14 April.

Man Bailed Over Sex Offences
A 40-year-old man has appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court today, charged in connection with a number of sexual offences. The man faces on charge of rape, two charges of sexual assault and one charge of sexual activity with a child.

Two released in Loughinisland murder investigation
Two people arrested yesterday in connection with the with the murder of six men in County Down in 1994, have been released without charge. The 45-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were arrested in the greater Belfast area yesterday morning and were held for questioning at the serious crime suite in Antrim.
