Campaign Encourages People To 'Look After Your Mental Health'

A new mental health campaign has been launched in Northern Ireland, encouraging people to look after their mental health with the same focus as their physical well-being.

The campaign, which is a joint initiative between the Public Health Agency (PHA) and Health and Social Care (HSC) organisations, promotes self-care as a way to deal with life's daily challenges.

Running between Wednesday, 10 September (World Suicide Prevention Day) and Friday, 10 October (World Mental Health Day), the campaign encourages everyone to practice mental health self-care using the 'Take 5 steps to wellbeing' approach.

These five steps include: Connect, by building relationships with family, friends, and colleagues; Be active, through physical activity; Take notice, by being aware of the world around you; Keep learning, by embracing new interests and skills; and Give, by performing acts of kindness and volunteering.

Common mental health problems, such as anxiety, stress, and depression, can affect anyone. While these feelings can be a natural response to life's challenges, they can become more serious if not addressed, which is the key message of the campaign.

More information about the campaign and its resources can be found on the Minding Your Head website.
