Cancer Focus NI Celebrates 10th Anniversary Pink Run
Cancer Focus NI is set to paint the Titanic Slipways pink with the return of its iconic breast cancer awareness month 5k fun run on Sunday, 12 October 2025.
Now in its 10th year, the leading cancer charity is welcoming individuals, workplaces, schools, and even dogs to get covered in pink powder for the event.
The family-friendly run is the charity's flagship fundraising event. Last year, it raised £110,000, which helped provide over 2,000 hours of life-changing support services to the 1 in 8 local women in Northern Ireland affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. These services include counselling, bra and swimwear fitting, and specialist support groups.
Cara Fenton, who was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at just 33 years old, knows the importance of this support.
"Until you hear the words 'you have cancer' you don't fully understand the kind of support you'll need and how traumatic the experience is," she said. "It just didn't feel real. I'm a healthy woman in my early thirties, I have so many plans for me and my family's future, and it felt like it was all taken away in an instant." Cara added that the support from Cancer Focus NI, including a weekend retreat to Donegal, helped her to "remember that I'm not alone on my cancer journey."
Maeve Colgan, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Cancer Focus NI, said it was "incredibly emotional to reflect on how far we've come." She noted that what started with around 50 participants has grown into a sell-out event with over 1,000 runners. "It's a true testament to our supporters and corporate sponsors that we are able to continue to support local women in their time of need," she said. This year’s 10th anniversary event is sponsored by b bold, Dale Farm Sukie, and Northstone.
Local fitness influencer and Cancer Focus NI ambassador, Lauren Clarke, encourages anyone thinking of signing up to "give it a go." She described the atmosphere on the day as "unmatched" and said hearing the stories from women who have battled breast cancer "really drives home what it's all about."
To get your tickets for the Pink Run, or to organise your own Go Pink Fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you can visit cancerfocusni.org, email fundraising@cancerfocus.org or call 028 9066 3281. All participants will receive a free t-shirt, a special 10th anniversary commemorative medal, and a fundraising pack.
