Appeal For Information After Racial Hate Crime In East Belfast
Police are appealing for information following a large gathering in the Factory Street area of East Belfast at around 7.20pm on Monday, 8 September. During the incident, two cars were approached and their drivers were confronted by members of the group. One of the cars was damaged during the altercation.
Chief Inspector Cunningham said the activity of these individuals is "generating fear in the community and it has to stop." He added that those involved have "neither the legal nor the moral authority" to intimidate and confront members of the public, largely on the basis of the colour of their skin.
Enquiries are continuing, and police are treating the incidents as racially motivated hate crimes. Police have urged anyone who has been a victim of these groups to report it. An increased police presence is expected in the area to provide reassurance to the community.
Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV, or dash-cam footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference 1189 08/09/25. A report can also be made online or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
