Kimmins And Muir Stand Firm On A5 Appeal
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has reiterated her commitment to progressing the A5 dual carriageway project, following support from DAERA Minister Andrew Muir.
"The A5 is a hugely significant infrastructure project, not least because of the road safety improvements it will bring and the lives that will be saved as a result," Minister Kimmins said, stressing that officials are working "around the clock" on a robust appeal against a High Court ruling in June. Minister Muir confirmed that his department intends to formally intervene in the appeal. "The journey to net zero is the defining challenge of our generation," he said, explaining that the Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022 was central to the court’s judgement. His department will focus on clarifying how the legislation should be implemented.
