Minister Lyons Visits Cushendall Social Housing Development

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has visited Kilnadore Brae in Cushendall, County Antrim, to see the ongoing construction of 34 social homes which form part of the Housing for All scheme.

The development, managed by Rural Housing Association, began on site in March 2024 and is expected to complete by March 2027. The project is supported by the Department for Communities and the NIHE Housing for All Shared Housing Programme, with total scheme costs of £7.2 million, including a Housing Association grant of £3.8 million.

During his visit, Minister Lyons met pupils from local primary schools who were involved in naming the development. The winning name, Lir View, reflects the story of the Children of Lir and the local coastal and glens landscape. The Minister highlighted that the scheme will deliver modern, sustainable homes to meet local housing demand and contribute to the economic and social benefits of the area.

Stephen Fisher, Chief Executive of Rural Housing Association, said: "Lir View will be a landmark scheme for Cushendall, addressing housing need while supporting connections within the community. We look forward to welcoming the first residents once the homes are completed."

The scheme will also include a programme of Good Relations activities over the next five years, complementing the delivery of high-quality social housing in this rural community.
