NICS Opens Applications For Permanent Secretary Roles
The Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) has opened applications for Permanent Secretary positions across several departments.
The role is the most senior policy advisory position in a department, providing guidance to Ministers and helping to shape and implement strategic policy. Successful candidates will be responsible for leading large teams, managing substantial budgets, and overseeing service delivery, while contributing to the Programme for Government and preparing for the upcoming multi-year budget. The starting salary is £146,469 per year, with a competitive annual leave and pension package.
Applications close at 12pm on Monday, 6 October 2025. Candidates currently employed elsewhere may also be considered for secondment. Further information, including how to apply, is available on the NICS recruitment website.

Planning Applications Continue To Fall
The overall number of planning applications submitted in Northern Ireland continues to fall, as a new report shows a 7% decrease in the first quarter of 2013/14, compared to the same period last year. The total number has fallen from from 3,233 to 2,997.
