£165,000 Worth Of Illegal Tobacco Seized In L'Derry
Officers from the Local Policing Team 3, along with colleagues from HMRC, conducted a search of a vehicle in the L'Derry area on Monday, 15 September.
The operation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of illegal contraband tobacco with an estimated street value of £165,000. Inspector Hewitt said there was "no such thing as a victimless crime," adding that purchasing illegal products deprives legitimate local traders of the chance to earn an honest living. He said the only person who profits from this type of crime is the person selling the goods.
Police have stated that they will continue to work with partner agencies to disrupt those who are intent on trading in illicit goods. The public has been encouraged to report any information about criminality by contacting police on the non-emergency number 101.
