Alliance Welcomes Recognition Of Palestine But Calls For Further Action
Alliance Party MP Sorcha Eastwood has welcomed the UK's formal recognition of the Palestinian state, but has stressed that the decision must be followed by robust action to end Israel's occupation.
She described the move as a "historic and long-overdue step" that sends an important signal about the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. However, the MP for Lagan Valley warned that the recognition, a symbolic act, will not be enough to end the violence in Gaza or stop the expansion of illegal settlements. She insisted that the UK must now follow through with immediate and strong action.
Ms Eastwood called on the UK government to end all arms sales to Israel, ban trade with illegal settlements, introduce sanctions, and insist on an immediate ceasefire with full humanitarian access to Gaza.
