Police Attend Large Gathering Of Youths In North Belfast
Police have confirmed that they received a report of a large gathering of youths at the Crumlin Road interface area of North Belfast on Monday, 22 September. Shortly before 8.20pm, it was reported that around 60 young people had attended the area, throwing eggs at a property and causing traffic disruption.
Officers attended the scene, and the crowd dispersed. Community representatives and youth workers were also in attendance to help prevent any potential disorder.
North Belfast Superintendent Allister Hagan said that as part of the ongoing commitment to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area, there will be an increased police presence. He added that they will continue to engage with key stakeholders and community representatives to find proactive solutions to keep residents safe.
Superintendent Hagan reassured the community that officers would continue to tackle issues impacting residents and welcomed the opportunity to engage with anyone with concerns about anti-social behaviour. He appealed to those involved in anti-social behaviour to "think seriously about the consequences of their actions" and asked local parents and guardians to speak to their children about where they are and who they are with, and to warn them of the dangers of getting involved.
Superintendent Hagan concluded that everyone has a responsibility to help make where they live safer for all. He added that reporting crimes or incidents helps focus patrols where they are needed and enables police to take positive action. He said that patrols would be out and about to deter anti-social behaviour, as well as to engage with and support local communities. He advised that anyone with concerns about anti-social behaviour can contact police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk."
