Justice Minister Pays Tribute to 'Hidden Heroes'

The Justice Minister has used Hidden Heroes Day to pay tribute to the essential work carried out by staff across the criminal justice sector, describing them as "critical public servants."

Held annually, Hidden Heroes Day provides an opportunity to formally recognise and thank the dedicated men and women working within prisons, probation, and youth justice services.

The Minister noted that the men and women working in these areas are "true Hidden Heroes." They are critical public servants doing difficult, demanding, and sometimes dangerous jobs on behalf of both the people in their care and the wider public they serve.

Women Left 'Shaken' After Shooting
The PSNI are today probing an overnight shooting in Co Londonderry. The incident was at Hawthorne Place in Coleraine and saw three masked men entering a house shortly before 5pm on Wednesday and then firing a shot into a wall in the property before the three made off.

Justice Minister Praises Work Of Prison Staff
The Justice Minister Naomi Long has paid tribute to the work of those in Northern Ireland's prisons, youth justice and probation as part of Hidden Heroes Day 2021. During a visit to Maghaberry Prison, the Minister met with staff from across the facility who have worked throughout the pandemic to support the people in the care of the prison service.
