Belfast Pupils' Artwork Shines On City Billboards

Pupils from five Belfast schools are celebrating after being named winners of Belfast City Council's 2025 Billboard Challenge, a creative competition that invited primary and post-primary schools to design billboards highlighting important community issues.

The five winning schools are Cranmore Integrated Primary, Dunmurry Primary, Holy Family Primary, Holy Evangelist Primary, and St Oliver Plunkett Primary. Their winning designs are now proudly displayed on large billboards in their local neighbourhoods, sending powerful messages to thousands of residents.

This year's competition focused on themes such as littering, dog fouling and graffiti, with each winning design tackling local issues in a fun, creative, and memorable way.

The pupils at St Oliver Plunkett Primary School focused on dog fouling with a creative billboard featuring partying dogs and the memorable slogan: "Don't be a party pooper. Scoop your poop."

The children at Holy Evangelist Primary School encouraged residents not to be lazy, with a design tackling both littering and dog fouling, complete with the cheeky reminder: "We don't live in a zoo, pick up your poo!" Similarly, Holy Family Primary School got straight to the point with their warning: "Don't leave poo for someone's shoe!"

Meanwhile, the winning design from Dunmurry Primary School took a clever sporting approach to tackle littering, featuring a bin as a basketball net alongside the slogan: "Slam Dunk the Junk." Finally, Cranmore Integrated Primary School produced a strong anti-social message regarding graffiti: "Think before you spray, put the paint can away."

Speaking at an event with pupils from Dunmurry Primary School, Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly, praised the children's creativity, calling the billboards a "powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in looking after our communities."
