Pedestrian Dies After Lorry Collision In Newry

Police have named the man who sadly died following a fatal road traffic collision in Newry on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, as 67-year-old John O'Brien.

The single-vehicle collision, involving a lorry and a male pedestrian, occurred in the Albert Basin area of the city. The incident was reported to police shortly after 3.30pm.

Officers attended the scene alongside emergency service partners, but Mr O'Brien was pronounced deceased at the scene. The area was closed for a period to allow for a forensic examination but has since re-opened.

Inspector Cherith Adair of the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Collision Investigation Unit confirmed the name and appealed for the public's assistance.

Police are continuing their enquiries and have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage that could assist with the investigation, to contact them.

The Collision Investigation Unit can be reached on 101, quoting reference number 901 08/10/25.

The police also issued a strong request for the public to immediately cease sharing a distressing image circulated from the scene of the fatality, out of consideration for the family. They warned that persons sharing the graphic image may be committing the offence of improper use of a public electronic communications network. Anyone with information about the originator or dissemination of the image should also contact police on 101.

Woman Dies Following Collision In Newtownabbey
A woman has died in hospital following a collision on the Doagh Road in Newtownabbey on Monday, 13th January. Shortly before 6.15pm, police received a report of a collision involving a grey Seat Ateca and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 80s, was taken to hospital but has since died as a result of her injuries.

Pedestrian Dies Following Road Traffic Collision Ikn West Belfast
A female pedestrian in her 70s has tragically died following a road traffic collision in west Belfast on Saturday, 9th November. The incident occurred on Hannahstown Hill shortly after 6:50pm when two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured pedestrians were taken to hospital.
