Major Jobs And Investment Boost For North Coast
Invest NI has announced £4 million in financial support for a major job creation and investment package across the Causeway Coast and Glens region.
Between April 2024 and March 2025, 78 businesses received support, enabling them to invest in productivity, grow exports, and increase innovation. This investment in local companies is expected to create almost 200 new jobs across key sectors, including advanced manufacturing, engineering, agri-food, life and health sciences, and financial and professional services.
Des Gartland, Invest NI's North Western Regional Manager, highlighted that the agency has backed 115 growth projects in the council area during the 2024-25 period. These investments, he noted, will ultimately strengthen the local economy and create more opportunities for local people. He added that regional balance is a strategic priority and confirmed the agency is working closely with stakeholders, including the Council and local enterprise agencies, to grow the economy in the area.
Key businesses receiving support include: • Basalt Distillery, Bushmills: The distillery is investing to grow its exports and increase production capacity, creating three new jobs, including a lead distiller. Director Martha Garbe noted that Invest NI's team in Canada recently helped the company secure a new distributor agreement.
• Hope Macaulay, Coleraine: The luxury fashion brand, whose knitwear has been worn by celebrities, received support to develop and trademark the brand, fund key management roles in operations and marketing, and streamline its supply chain. The research and development support will also play a part in the development of its local Irish yarn.
• Hutchinson, Kilrea: The company, which designs and manufactures high-integrity fabrications, is making a significant investment in new equipment, including a large laser cutter and robotic welding systems. This investment is set to increase revenue and create 57 new jobs.
The 199 new roles being created span a range of positions, including managerial and professional roles, skilled trades occupations, machine operatives, and customer service positions.
Gartland added: "Our North Western regional team is here to support businesses at all stages. Whether you're looking to scale your business, increase productivity or reach new markets, we would love to discuss how we might be able to work together with you."
